Lukas 1:50

1:50 from ¹  generation to generation he is merciful ²  to those who fear ³  him.

Lukas 18:2

18:2 He said, ⁴  “In a certain city ⁵  there was a judge ⁶  who neither feared God nor respected people. ⁷ 

Lukas 23:40

23:40 But the other rebuked him, saying, ⁸  “Don’t ⁹  you fear God, since you are under the same sentence of condemnation? ¹⁰ 

[1:50]  ¹ tn Grk “and from.” Here καί (kai) has been translated by a semicolon to improve the English style.

[1:50]  ² sn God’s mercy refers to his “loyal love” or “steadfast love,” expressed in faithful actions, as the rest of the psalm illustrates.

[1:50]  ³ tn That is, “who revere.” This refers to those who show God a reverential respect for his sovereignty.

[18:2]  ⁴ tn Grk “lose heart, saying.” This is a continuation of the previous sentence in the Greek text, but a new sentence was started here in the translation by supplying the pronominal subject “He.”

[18:2]  ⁵ tn Or “town.”

[18:2]  ⁶ sn The judge here is apparently portrayed as a civil judge who often handled financial cases.

[18:2]  ⁷ tn Grk “man,” but the singular ἄνθρωπος (anqrwpo") is used as a generic in comparison to God.

[23:40]  ⁸ tn Grk “But answering, the other rebuking him, said.” This is somewhat redundant and has been simplified in the translation.

[23:40]  ⁹ tn The particle used here (οὐδέ, oude), which expects a positive reply, makes this a rebuke – “You should fear God and not speak!”

[23:40]  ¹⁰ tn The words “of condemnation” are not in the Greek text, but are implied.
